Ayutthaya:
ruins and temples, UNESCO
World Heritage Site.

Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya was the capital of Siam (present-day Thailand) for more than 400 years.

Ayutthaya's location on the Chao Phraya and Lopburi rivers made it an important strategic point and a centre for trade and communication.

Today, the ruins of historic Ayutthaya are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This includes beautiful temples such as Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat (known for its famous Buddha head fused into tree roots), and Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

These temples are symbols of the city's ancient splendour.
